New Release x2 [Sep. 3rd, 2023|01:33 am]

[Current Mood |tired]

I watched two new releases on the same day! I feel a weird sense of accomplishment about it, LOL.

  1. I watched You Are So Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah with my mom. Adam Sandler and his family (wife and two daughters) are in it and it mostly centers around his younger daughter, who's turning 13. Sarah Sherman plays a Hebrew school teacher and I thought her wacky sense of humor added a lot! Overall, it was worth watching, but I wouldn't watch it again. Check it out on Netflix if you want.

  2. Todd Barry: Domestic Shorthair, I watched with J later that day. Now this was more my speed! I was howling with laughter at points! Todd Barry is so fucking funny. He has a great comedy style, a sort of dry sense of humor that I love. It's free on YouTube, it's less than an hour, and you're guaranteed a giggle, so check it out:

A draft from the other night:

I'm watching Big Top Pee-wee in honor of Paul Reubens. It's not nearly as watchable as Pee-wee's Big Adventure, but it's a comfort movie for me, and hey it's free to watch (Amazon Prime).

Paul Reubens... What a loss. Like many other folks my age, I grew up watching Pee-wee - especially Pee-wee's Playhouse. He had a big impact on me. He was like a light in a dark world. It may sound corny, but it's absolutely true.

I actually made a Pee-wee Herman character the last time I was playing around with The Sims 4. It was kinda funny, hehe... For the record, I found I actually hate Sims 4, and much prefer the earlier versions of the game! Maybe I should play Sims 1 again, or maybe Sims 2...

Speaking of gaming, I finally got my copy of Animal Crossing: New Leaf to work again! I actually bought another copy of it just the other day! But I finally tried a factory reset on my 2DS and now it works! I'd been thinking it was a faulty cartridge the whole time, don't know why I didn't think to reset it!

I'm almost a year into making my town, Toot!

Also been having fun with some even older video games, but that's for another time! GTG

Trick or Treat! [Oct. 27th, 2022|06:03 pm]

I know three posts in one day is kind of a lot, but I feel like writing now!

I live on Main Street in my town and today is the annual Halloween Walk, so the street is blocked off, and there are kids and families in costume right outside my window, going from business to business collecting candy! I just love getting to see all the costumes! My favorites so far have been a mushroom, tanooki Mario, and inflatable Tyrannosaurus Rex.

People dressing in costume is my favorite part of Halloween. I love how it can be creative or just something you throw on from out of a bag from Spirit Halloween. I like all holidays, I'm a pretty festive person, but Halloween is actually my least favorite. I'm not into scary stuff like haunted houses. Even horror movies don't really do it for me.

However, there are a few scary (not horror exactly) movies I love! My favorite is The Bad Seed. I normally hate old movies from the black-and-white era, but this movie is so good! The performances are all spectacular! I admit I haven't seen it in probably ten years, but I love it and I used to show it to practically everyone I'd meet, LOL! Maybe I should watch it again on Halloween?

I love this poster! Wish I could find a better image of it!

While I was writing this, a little kid lost their helium-filled balloon and shouted, "No! Come back!" :o(

The Friday Five for February 11, 2022 [Feb. 11th, 2022|05:11 pm]

[Current Music |YouTube ▶️]

I promise to post a real life update soon, but for now... Today's [community profile] thefridayfive!

1. What's your favorite candle scent?
In winter, I love a pine tree scent. I like lavender a lot. And I like apple. I like pretty much anything, as long as it isn't scented like some type of dessert or something, yuck.

2. Do you have an artistic or crafty hobby? What is it?
I'm not really working on any crafts at the moment, but I'm planning on getting back into knit and crochet and maybe some felt crafts... Mom got a Cricut Maker for her craft room! It should come today, actually! I'm not sure what model exactly, but yeah, I'm excited!

3. What's one weird way you save money on food?
I don't think I have any good answer for this! I do save condiments for later use sometimes though! Like ketchup packets and stuff. LOL

4. Do you collect anything weird or unusual?
I don't know if dolls themselves are weird, but some think it's weird to collect them. I have two Blythe dolls (which a lot of people think are creepy/spooky-looking - but I think they're just adorable!), a bunch of Barbie dolls, lots of Kewpie dolls, and a whole lot more!! I don't have them all displayed though, just a few!

5. Do you fear the deep ocean, or does its unknown depths excite you?
I fear it. Rightfully so, I think! I mean... There are sharks and shit in there, FFS! I think of the ocean waves as the ocean saying, "Get out of me, go away! You don't belong in me!" LOL

And more Qs, courtesy of [personal profile] jo's Daily Questions for 2022:

10. What do you think is the best sitcom (current or past)?
Easy, Seinfeld! Others I like are the Seinfeld-adjacent Curb Your Enthusiasm, The Office (UK > US), Golden Girls, Will & Grace, It's Always Sunny in Philidelphia, etc.

11. What do you think is the most overrated movie?
The Big Lebowski.

My dude set up the VCR last night, so we watched This is Spinal Tap! Then today, we watched Pulp Fiction! Two movies that are very, very different from each other, but two of my all-time favorites!! For some reason, Pulp Fiction just... hit different this time? I really enjoyed it... More than any other time I've watched it! It's a wild ride!

And then I of course had my annual viewing of Christmas Eve on Sesame Street! I've watched it every Christmas Eve since I was little! I probably skipped a couple of years, but I have a pretty good streak going for the last 5+ years. Read more about it here! And just FYI, the whole thing is on Youtube!

Finished watching I Feel Pretty just a little while ago, and it was ok. There were plenty of laughs, but overall nothing that special. I enjoyed it well enough though.

A few days ago we watched Trainspotting. I tried to watch it once like, ten years ago, but the fast pace and the Scottish accents made it difficult for me to follow, so I didn't get very far into the story before giving up.

This time there were subtitles, which made it a lot easier to understand! Anyway, it was pretty good. I can totally see how it would have been a huge deal in the mid-late 90s. I loved the music, and the way it was used. That scene with "Perfect Day"! Phew!! Intense.

We just discovered this show called Pen15 a few days ago. It's a Hulu Original, and it's pretty good! It was weird at first, watching these two women in their 30s pretending to be 13! LOL We've watched ~8 episodes so far season 1, and we've really been enjoyinged it.

It's mostly a comedy, and it takes place in the year 2000. In that way, I can relate since I was around that age at that time. Anyway, it's good, but not great. I do recommend it though, especially if you like a good coming-of-age story. I think the women who are in it will probably go on to do some great things, they're very funny!

I also caught up on Kidding with my mom the other day, and it's sort of jumped the shark for me. It was great at drawing me in with the first episode or two, but it kind of lost some of its intrigue I think. I'll still gladly watch the next season with my mom though, now that it's kind of "our thing."

The other show Mom and I watched together recently was The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, and it was outstanding! The clothes on that show are to die for! But also, it's just a really captivating show, and really well done, and very funny! And we, of course, love the Jewishness of it all! ✡

Christmas is coming, and I'm very excited! My love and I will be spending Christmas with my family this year! My family will, of course, have our yearly viewing of Christmas Eve on Sesame Street, the best Christmas special ever!! Blows 'em all out of the water!

It's an hour long, and it's one of those movies where like - you'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll feel all warm 'n' fuzzy!! It's just a really good, sweet, enjoyable movie, and I encourage you to give it a try, whether or not you have kiddos to watch with!!

Ok, so Blue Velvet... We'd picked up the VHS at a thrift store a long time ago, but we were waiting for the right time to watch it, as we aren't usually in the mood for more heavy movies. Like, we tend to go for comedies and stuff.

Anyway! Really fucked up movie!! I enjoyed its use of music, and I was able to follow it pretty well, but tbh I'd have to watch it again if I wanted to piece the story together better. I don't really have any desire to watch it again any time soon though! If you've seen this movie, I'm sure you understand! It's violent, and just really fucked up and intense! Well done, but very uncomfortable!

Then today I watched Legally Blonde, which was on TV. I kind of love that movie!! I've seen it a few times now, and Reese Witherspoon is so good in it, so funny!! I hate the "bend and snap" scene in the nail salon though... Too silly! 😝

Now I'm into my nightly routine TV viewing. Starting at 10 pm, channel 11 plays:

  • Seinfled x2
  • Family Guy x2
  • American Dad!
  • The Cleveland Show
  • King of the Hill

That's usually about all I bother to watch on TV, tbh! Everything else on TV these days kind of sucks, in my opinion. Maybe there's good stuff on cable, but I just don't feel like paying for that!
