New Release x2 |
[Sep. 3rd, 2023|01:33 am] |
I watched two new releases on the same day! I feel a weird sense of accomplishment about it, LOL.
- I watched You Are So Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah with my mom. Adam Sandler and his family (wife and two daughters) are in it and it mostly centers around his younger daughter, who's turning 13. Sarah Sherman plays a Hebrew school teacher and I thought her wacky sense of humor added a lot! Overall, it was worth watching, but I wouldn't watch it again. Check it out on Netflix if you want.
- Todd Barry: Domestic Shorthair, I watched with J later that day. Now this was more my speed! I was howling with laughter at points! Todd Barry is so fucking funny. He has a great comedy style, a sort of dry sense of humor that I love. It's free on YouTube, it's less than an hour, and you're guaranteed a giggle, so check it out:

The Friday Five for July 28, 2023 |
[Jul. 30th, 2023|08:01 pm] |
1. When did you recently have the feeling, "Life is good." Rockin' out to ...Like Clockwork with J earlier.
2. Which do you need more, routine or spontaneity? Routine, definitely. I don't have much of it, and I need more of it!
3. Do you have a difficult or annoying neighbor? It me.
4. What do you want to change about yourself? My weight, of course. But also my hairstyle, wardrobe, etc. I'm working on my self-image, and I think those things will help! Feeling healthy will help.
Also, I haven't gotten a haircut in 5+ years (not including my DIY buzzcut in 2020), so I'm very overdue! I just have so many reasons I hate going to the salon! :o(
5. What do you like best about where you live? That's tough because I hate my current place. It's a good location if you like lots of action and fast cars zooming by. :o/ |

Gameboy Life |
[Jan. 13th, 2023|08:23 pm] |
I've been playing a lot of video games. Last month, we finally received our Analogue Pocket, which we preordered about a year prior! It was a very exciting day! I called it the ninth day of Hanukkah because it was like the gifts just kept coming!
Then more recently, we got a Gameboy link cable to enable us to play 2-player! J lets me have the Analogue Pocket, and he's on a Gameboy Light. We play Puyo Puyo 2 (puzzle game with falling pieces - similar [yet different] from Tetris) and Gameboy Baseball (so good!).
I could go on and on about how the Analogue Pocket is breathing new life into Gameboy games! I love it so much! I love old games! Especially when they're in vivid colors on a beautiful, crisp OLED screen! β‘
But yeah, man... Baseball is really good! It's challenging and fun! J and I really get competitive over it! LOL And I'm also learning a lot about the game of baseball in general. Makes me think of my Pa, who loved baseball.
I'm going to try to post a real life update tomorrow! |

UFC Dreams |
[Oct. 28th, 2022|05:52 pm] |
Last night I dreamed that I wanted to be a UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship) fighter. I wanted to be known as "Betsy the Beast," LOL! But of course, in the real world these fighters don't give themselves nicknames, but earn them from others...
Anyway, there was a buff, jock dude who was gatekeeping and saying, "You're not fit to be a fighter, you're too old and fat," etc. And then there was a buff, black woman with lots of tiny braids pulled back into a ponytail, who was encouraging me to exercise and get in shape so I could do it! Telling me, "it's not too late!" It felt good having her stand up for me.
In reality, it is too late! After all, I'm pushing 40 and fucking obese.
But I wish I would've gotten into sports when I was younger. Whenever J watches UFC, I think, That could've been me... Since I'm quite tall and big-boned, I feel I could've been a successful fighter. Although I was somewhat physically fit when I was younger, I don't know if I had the right mindset for fighting. I believe it takes a lot of nerve. Basically, you have to be cool with getting punched in the face multiple times! I was just too fragile back then...
While my dad was a star athlete in high school, my mom was not at all sporty! The three of us girls weren't really encouraged to get into sports.
If I recall correctly, being on the girls' basketball team in the 4th grade was my idea. That and a few karate lessons around the same time period were the extents of my sports career. I don't believe my older sisters participated in sports, aside from what was required of them in gym class, of course. I really can't imagine either of them being into that sort of thing!
But yeah... Maybe in another life, or a parallel dimension or something! |

The Friday Five for June 3, 2022 |
[Jun. 6th, 2022|12:03 am] |
1. What kind of bugs do you see outside this time of year? Lightning bugs (fireflies), mosquitos, bees, wasps, dragonflies, butterflies, beetles, ants, etc. Today I saw a really huge, fucked up wasp down by the river... Scared me!
2. What's your favorite food to eat outside? Grilled hotdog, well done!
3. How much rain is too much rain? I love rain! As far as I'm concerned, it's only too much if it gets scary or like, wreaks havoc.
4. What are you celebrating this month? My anniversary with J! It's near the end of the month.
5. What's your favorite color combination? Depends on the context, but I kinda like green and purple! |

Mom and I made hamantaschen today! We made them with cherry filling, and my favorite, mohn (poppy seed) filling. We used this recipe, and tbh they were just ok, but it's kind of a cheat recipe, so what was I expecting? Next time, I'll insist we try this one. Anyway, she's going to take them around to all our family and friends tomorrow.
Here's a photo of our hamantaschen, aren't they pretty? Even if they were rather bland in taste. This photo happens to be mostly the cherries and just a couple mohn up at the top there.

I got so wrapped up in writing about my life and things, that I forgot about Daily Questions for 2022 for well over a week!

thefridayfive for 5/7/21 |
[May. 7th, 2021|11:54 pm] |
1) What is your favourite food? Being a fattie food lover, it's hard to pick a favorite, but I'll have to go with pizza Margherita! The mozzarella, tomato, and basil combined are literally *chefβs kiss*
2) What is your favourite food preparation method? Stir-fry. My dude makes an excellent stir-fry!
3) What is your favourite cuisine or style of cooking? Well, by my first answer you'd think I'd say Italian food, but overall, I think it's a tie between Thai food and Indian food!
4) Do you have any dietary restrictions and if so what are they? I'm a really picky eater, does that count? LOL Other than that, I just try to eat healthy, low-sugar/carb for health reasons.
5) If you could introduce the whole world to one ingredient to improve their culinary experience, what would that be and why? Coconut cream. It's great in a curry! |

'Twas the Night Before Christmas |
[Dec. 24th, 2020|09:25 pm] |
My dude set up the VCR last night, so we watched This is Spinal Tap! Then today, we watched Pulp Fiction! Two movies that are very, very different from each other, but two of my all-time favorites!! For some reason, Pulp Fiction just... hit different this time? I really enjoyed it... More than any other time I've watched it! It's a wild ride!
And then I of course had my annual viewing of Christmas Eve on Sesame Street! I've watched it every Christmas Eve since I was little! I probably skipped a couple of years, but I have a pretty good streak going for the last 5+ years. Read more about it here! And just FYI, the whole thing is on Youtube! |

Just a Gamer Gaming |
[Feb. 22nd, 2019|09:31 pm] |
I've been playing lots of Tetris 99, which is a new release that just came out maybe a week ago. It's free if you pay for a Nintendo membership (or whatever it's called) for your Switch.
 Screenshot c/o Nintendo
It's a battle royale version of the classic Tetris game. The game is played online with 99 players total (hence the title). The object of the game is to be the last player remaining, and there's a big list at the end, and it tells you how you scored.
When I first started playing, I was #86 of 99, but I got better and better with practice! Now, I'm usually able to get below 50 (but not always)! My high score: I got to #9 on the list yesterday! Pretty proud of myself for that, just wish I'd taken a screenshot for posterity! LOL
( Old lady rambling about not getting Pokemon... )
Haven't played Stardew Valley in a long while! A little intimidated. Might give it another go tomorrow when I'll have time for a good, long sesh. I'll have to do some research tonight in preparation. I caught a fish last time, but like, I don't know how? LOL |

I've decided to take part in the 365 Questions for 2019 meme! Here we go!
January 1: Would you rather relive the last 365 days or lose a year of your life? Depends on a lot of different factors! (First question is kind of a dud, tbh...)
January 2: What is your most mundane encounter with a celebrity? Janeane Garafalo asked me/us for a light once! My SO and I had attended a festival where she was performing. He was the one to actually light her cigarette, but hey, it might as well have been me! π¬ |

Christmas is Coming |
[Dec. 21st, 2018|06:56 pm] |
Christmas is coming, and I'm very excited! My love and I will be spending Christmas with my family this year! My family will, of course, have our yearly viewing of Christmas Eve on Sesame Street, the best Christmas special ever!! Blows 'em all out of the water!
It's an hour long, and it's one of those movies where like - you'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll feel all warm 'n' fuzzy!! It's just a really good, sweet, enjoyable movie, and I encourage you to give it a try, whether or not you have kiddos to watch with!!
